REFLECTION, DISCOVER AND HORSES
This 12-day workshop is once a week and is directed to participants becoming more aware and open to richer relationships. We create authentic safety through setting and holding boundaries, and using conscious predictions of what we think will happen. Experiential learning is unlike learning by reading or videos, as it happens only with presence. Being present, and focused on the moment, brings clarity and confidence.
In the first six sessions, the horses guide us to deep listening without any agenda or manipulation of the relationship. Our awareness in the moment brings us to our most authentic self. Together we create a sacred, open space for learning and insight. The last six sessions are directed at making a respectful invitation to engagement that inspires the horse to become a willing partner in our shared activity. This is where we become aware of the effects of how and when to ask for something, with mutual respect. This also brings us to awareness of the place that we hold in the heart of each horse that connects with us.
This workshop promotes connections within our own selves, integrates past experiences with present feelings, and empowers us to feel safe. We become confident and more authentic as we learn to trust and forgive our own selves. We learn to recognize five prominent features of love. This makes it easier to see it, ask for it, attract it, and keep it. Balancing intuition, body language, leadership, and empathy, we learn to respond in the moment rather than react to a past incident that may have left inner scars. Anxiety melts away when our own position of leadership and clear communication manifests in us. Being outside, on a beautiful ranch with sensitive horses, we connect with our own power.
WHY TAKE THIS WORKSHOP?
We invite you to find what you have been looking for...
Our primary goal is personal growth and a richer capacity for meaningful friendships. This workshop is successfully helping people feel more connected within themselves and with others. This workshop also serves as excellent preparation for other activities and services we will be offering to our patrons and volunteers, and builds a strong foundation for working together towards any shared dream or program creation.
WHAT MIGHT YOU EXPECT?
This workshop creates an experiential, supportive learning environment for participants to learn about themselves, heal what has been broken, and reconnect with our own hearts. We allow the horse to ‘guide’ the process of learning, as we reflect and explore our emotions. This leads us to integrating those wounded and subconscious beliefs and apply our insights to find our own authentic balance.
We invite you to enjoy this workshop for personal growth. For people wanting to add to your professional credentials, we invite you to consider coming back after completing this workshop and join us to become certified facilitators. Your experience as an intern, will support you as a part of our team and will give you the confidence that you need to present this curriculum independently. This workshop’s curriculum will be made available only to Certified Facilitators.
Kathy Rutan-Sprague, in 36 years as an RN, has been present for births, deaths and crises. Her passion is in healing the whole person and promoting wellness. Time away from the hospital to travel, raise children and become a Certified Flight Instructor, gave her insights into the way we can connect love to the adventure that life is. She realized that the horses she had as a girl gave her an authentic connection with her father, and confidence within herself in times of crisis, they were like therapeutic friends. As a nurse working with patients in a crisis unit, she came to see that medication management was not enough. People have a need to be heard and to belong. With the horses she raised for this purpose, she served clients from the county outpatient mental health, kids from social services and continuation high school, and weekly groups of kids and adults from mental health treatment programs. This taught her what actually works to heal and empower people who are vulnerable and in need of trusted allies. Kathy considers this work to be the culmination of all that she learned in her careers and her life, and believes that it can be useful to many others.
