This fall, come experience something truly special at Roughout Ranch — a rare opportunity to grow alongside our adorable baby Haflinger colt during his very first year of life.
Horse Encounters Golden Beginnings, a gentle, hands-on horse experience designed for all ages and experiences.
Because our sweet little colt is growing quickly, this unique program will only be offered during his baby year — making it a one-time opportunity to experience the magic, personality, curiosity, and charm of a young horse up close.
These early months go by fast, and each session captures a special stage of his journey as he learns, explores, and grows through caring human interaction.
Saturdays — 10:00 AM to 12:30 AM Sundays — 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Additional weekday and homeschool sessions may be added based on interest.
All activities are supervised and tailored to each participant’s comfort level and experience. Our goal is to create a calm, encouraging environment where everyone feels safe, successful, and included.

Equine-assisted services for personal development, including equine therapy, help individuals and groups discover new ways to face life’s challenges and opportunities by developing skills in effective problem-solving, decision-making, critical thinking, creative thinking, and communication.
Equine-assisted activities represent a novel approach to learning life skills. Participants team up with certified Equine Specialists and horses during horse encounters to reach their goals. Presence, trust, respect, appreciation, affection, honesty, and communication are invaluable skills for daily life when working with horses. For those who struggle to learn these essential skills, equine-assisted learning can provide significant support.
Boundaries, awareness, and predictability are invaluable for your well-being and mental health, especially during equine therapy and horse encounters. By working around such large, strong animals, participants will learn to be aware of everything that’s going on around them and within themselves. Additionally, the size of horses fosters a sense of self-confidence and personal development, as individuals gain the ability to control something so much larger than themselves.

Horsemanship offers a variety of unmounted activities, such as boundaries, awareness, predictability, grooming, tacking, and warm-up exercises for horses on the ground. These sessions not only enhance strength, balance, confidence, communication, and social skills, but also serve as a form of equine therapy that promotes personal development. Participants benefit from personalized, one-on-one instruction from certified staff in an unmounted setting. In addition to learning horsemanship techniques, individuals engage in meaningful horse encounters that help cultivate valuable life skills in a supportive and encouraging environment, ensuring each session is both enjoyable and enriching. This program is designed for youth and adults of all abilities.

The sessions, featuring equine therapy and engaging horse encounters, aim to help participants learn to stand their ground when necessary, practice self-care, and recognize when to ask for help. We strive to create a safe, enjoyable, and challenging environment where participants can embark on their personal development journey. Participants will explore essential skills, including asserting healthy boundaries, practicing awareness and predictability, managing obstacles, challenges, and distractions, and making empowered choices.

Offers hands-on learning experiences through equine therapy that promote a sense of purpose and responsibility, encourage physical activity, and develop both fine and gross motor skills. This approach also builds confidence and fosters an environment of trust, safety, and comfort for both individuals and equines. Activities such as barn chores and horse encounters foster personal development, boosting self-esteem, focus, stress reduction, self-awareness, and physical activity through the unique bond between humans and equines.
